Alt-Tag Thingy FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
| Q. | Do I have to un-install Alt-Tab Thingy v3 when upgrading to a new version? |
| A. | No. From version 3.2.0, it is possible to install without having to un-install the old version. This way, all your settings remain intact. NB - You cannot upgrade versions prior to version 3.0.0 in this way as the settings are stored in a different location. |
| Q. | I get the error "Unable to register the hotkeys" when I try to start Alt-Tab Thingy. What is wrong? |
| A. | This is due to others programs running that have registered the hot-keys for the "ALT-TAB" key combinations. You must close the programs in order for Alt-Tab Thingy to start and work correctly. |
| Q. | Will it work with Windows 98SE? |
| A. | No. Due to various methods employed in ATT, it requires Windows XP or better. |
| Q. | Is the source code available? |
| A. | Alt-Tab Thingy was written in C++. The code is not available has a whole project, but sample code can be provided for those who want to know how it works. |
| Q. | I have an idea for another feature. How can I help? |
| A. | I cannot improve this utility unless you help with ideas. Anything goes! There is a section on the forum where you can post your ideas. |
| Q. | Some programs already have system tray icons. Will this cause problems? |
| A. | Don't worry about this. It will not have any affect on the programs. |
| Q. | I don't like the look. Can I change it? |
| A. | Give me an example of what you would like it to look like. |
| Q. | It has bugs! Don't you test it before releasing? |
| A. | Despite thorough testing, I cannot test it under every scenario. Please use the forum to post any queries you may have. |
| Q. | Sometimes, the keyboard focus is lost switching between tasks. Keyboard short-cuts for cut, copy, and paste don't always work. Why is this? |
| A. | This has been due to users using the Office Clipboard. Disabling it stops this behaviour. |
| Q. | Some applications have built in ways to minimize to the system tray. And then they don't show in ATTs task list. Why is this? |
| A. | Apps that do this are not necessarily minimized, but are just simply not visible. Trying to add them to the task list could result in other unwanted icons appearing in the task list. This issue will hopefully be fixed for a future release and users will have more control over the system tray. |
