Desktop Lite Thingy
![]()
Desktop Lite Thingy is a light-weight alternative to Windows Explorer and the traditional desktop.
Desktop Lite Thingy is currently for Windows 2000 & Windows XP only.
From the developer
"Desktop Lite Thingy is intended to be a cut-down version of Windows Explorer employing a simpler interface, and improved memory usage, whilst still providing access to everything you need such as the system tray, short-cut links to My Documents, Recycle Bin, Desktop Icons, Start Menu etc, and also the usual taskbar buttons.
Desktop Lite Thingy will not be supporting 3rd party software such as clock replacements, nor will it support additional toolbars. To do so will defeat the whole object of this light-weight shell replacement."
Enjoy!

Instructions
To install Desktop Lite Thingy, right-click the caption bar and select "Install" from the context menu. Click "Uninstall" to revert back to "Explorer" (the familiar Windows desktop). You must Log Off for changes to take effect.
Desktop Lite Thingy consists of a single executable. Because of this, there is no installer and the user can place it where-ever they choose and run it from there.
Further options can be found by clicking "Settings" from Desktop Lite Thingys context menu. Desktop Lite Thingy uses an 'INI' file to store its settings. The settings file is fully commented to help the user to change the settings to their taste. All settings under [Internal] will have no effect, except for 'ResetPos' which forces Desktop Lite Thingy to reset it's position to the center of the desktop.

Notice
Steve is currently developing new ideas for Desktop Lite Thingy. Ideas such as improved skinning, a new powerful search feature, full compatibility with Vista, and hopefully a dedicated file manager. As these new features take shape, an alpha version of Desktop Lite Thingy will be released for user approval and dedicated forums will be opened for discussion of these new features. Please note: Desktop Lite Thingy will not be supported on Windows 2000 on future versions.
